An orthoptist is an allied health professional who is specifically trained in the diagnosis and management of muscle movement disorders in adults and children. Through clinical evaluation and testing procedures an orthoptist helps ophthalmologists design an individual plan of treatment for each patient. If eye muscle surgery is required, it is the orthoptic measurements that dictate the surgical plan. Orthoptists also help in the care and management of children with amblyopia.

Sally is a British trained and American certified orthoptist. She completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Vision and Strabismus in 2018. She qualified from Liverpool University in 2008. Her first job was at the Singapore National Eye Centre where she stayed for 2 and a half years before obtaining her American orthoptic certification in August 2010. In August 2011, she moved to Portland and joined Child Eye Care Associates.

Her favorite part of the job is taking a scared child and making them smile, giggle and leave wanting to be an eye doctor! This followed closely by a happy adult who arrives with constant double vision and leaves with just one image of everything.
