COVID-19 Update 5/26/2020

To Child Eye Care Patients

While many things have changed in the last few months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our commitment to our patients and their health and safety remain the same.  To keep patients and staff as healthy as possible, our office is following additional infection control recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, the Oregon Health Authority, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Patients and families will therefore experience some changes in our office procedures, both before and during appointments, and we ask for your patience and cooperation.  For instance:

  • When you arrive for your appointment, you will be asked some screening questions about possible virus symptoms.

  • Patients and companions will have their temperature measured at check-in.

  • We will only permit one companion to accompany a patient while in the office.  Siblings and other family members, unfortunately, are an added risk for spreading infection and will need to wait elsewhere during the appointment.

  • We ask that all patients older than 4 years wear a mask while in the office, as well as companions.

  • Our staff will be wearing masks.

  • If a patient or companion is ill, the appointment will need to be rescheduled.

  • We have removed toys from our waiting room and exam rooms, as these items are difficult to keep disinfected.  (It may be helpful for your child  to bring a small toy to play with while waiting for dilating drops to take effect).

  • Appointments are being scheduled further apart, to minimize the number of people in the waiting room and to allow our staff to disinfect exam rooms between patients.  This may mean that there are fewer choices of times available to you in making an appointment.
